Program Highlights

  • Training Duration: 1 week to 3 months
  • Eligibility: Attending physicians or fellows
  • Minimum language Requirement: Intermediate level of English
  • Application Materials: CV, study plan, medical license, degree certificate, recommendation letter, health screening documents
  • Support Provided:
    • shared dormitory accommodation (2–4 beds per room)
    • Hospital meals (lunch and dinner)
    • Shuttle transportation between main and branch hospitals
    • Access to hospital facilities and academic activities

International Clinical Training Program

 

Cathay General Hospital’s Department of Cardiology offers an immersive training experience in both non-invasive and interventional cardiology. As part of our integrated Cardiovascular Center, the program provides hands-on learning in diagnosis, medical management, and catheter-based therapies for a wide range of cardiovascular conditions.

 

Program Focus Areas

1. Non-Invasive Cardiology

  • ECG and Holter interpretation
  • Echocardiography (TTE, TEE) and Doppler studies
  • Cardiac CT and MRI evaluation
  • Stress testing and functional assessments
  • Heart failure and arrhythmia management

2. Interventional Cardiology

  • Coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
  • Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), FFR/iFR interpretation
  • Stent deployment strategies and complication management
  • Acute myocardial infarction (STEMI/NSTEMI) care pathways
  • Radial and femoral access site techniques

3. Electrophysiology (EP)

  • Arrhythmia mapping and ablation procedures
  • Pacemaker and ICD implantation
  • CRT device optimization
  • ECG workshop and telemetry interpretation

Clinical Learning

  • Observation of diagnostic and interventional cath lab procedures
  • Participation in cardiovascular ward and CCU rounds
  • Weekly case-based conferences and journal discussions
  • Exposure to hybrid cases involving surgery and cardiology

 

Training Duration

  • Standard Rotation: 4–6 weeks
  • Focused EP or Interventional Rotation: 2–4 weeks

 

Eligibility

  • Cardiology fellows or internists with cardiovascular interest
  • Minimum 1 year of internal medicine training
  • Proficient in English

 

Certification

At the end of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Cathay General Hospital.

 

International Clinical Training Program

 

The Cardiovascular Surgery Division at CGH collaborates closely with cardiologists and intensivists to provide comprehensive surgical management for complex heart conditions. With decades of surgical excellence and a dedicated Hybrid OR, our international program offers trainees direct exposure to open and transcatheter procedures.

 

Program Focus Areas

1. Cardiac Surgery

  • Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
  • Heart valve repair and replacement (AVR, MVR, TVR)
  • Aortic root and ascending aortic surgery
  • Emergency surgery for acute aortic dissection
  • Off-pump and minimally invasive cardiac surgery

2. Hybrid & Transcatheter Therapies

  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)
  • Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (MitraClip)
  • Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO)
  • ASD/VSD/PDA device closure
  • Access management and vascular complication handling

3. Postoperative Management

  • ICU care and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Graft patency surveillance and imaging
  • Early mobilization and recovery protocols

Clinical Involvement

  • Observe surgical procedures in the Hybrid OR
  • Join pre-op discussions and intra-op briefings
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Track patients through pre-op, OR, ICU, and step-down care

 

Training Duration

  • Standard Surgical Rotation: 1–8 weeks
  • Focused TAVI or Valve Program: 1–4 weeks

 

Eligibility

  • Cardiothoracic surgery fellows or cardiovascular-focused surgeons
  • At least 2 years of surgical experience preferred
  • English proficiency is essential

 

Certification

At the end of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Cathay General Hospital.
